Setting Intentions Vs. Making Resolutions

I hope this message finds you well! As we step into the New Year, I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind—New Year’s resolutions. They’ve always felt so rigid, like setting myself up for disappointment when life inevitably takes its twists and turns. That’s why I’ve embraced setting intentions instead, and it’s been a game-changer.

Intentions are less about achieving specific outcomes and more about aligning with how you want to live and feel. They create a guiding light rather than a checklist, which feels so much kinder and more sustainable. For example, instead of “I will work out five days a week,” an intention might be “I will move my body in ways that feel good and energize me.” This leaves room for flexibility and joy.

Mindfulness plays a big role in this. Setting intentions encourages us to pause, reflect, and tune into what truly matters. It’s less about external pressures and more about inner alignment. Movement and healthy living also feel easier when I think about them as acts of self-care rather than obligations. Whether it’s a short yoga practice, a mindful walk, or choosing nourishing foods, these small, consistent choices become a way of honoring myself rather than ticking off a goal.

As we welcome this New Year, I’m setting intentions like cultivating presence, finding balance, and nurturing connections. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what intentions feel meaningful to you this year?

Wishing you a year filled with growth, joy, and ease.

This is where you can find some of the poetry I’ve written as well as short essays and reflections.
